Our Story – Music to make you move

September 18, 2020

New Life has always been a fun loving community. It also has been a community that likes to dance. So here are some memories from our love of music to make you move!

This love of music and movement started very early, in August 1970 to be exact. A teenage dance was held behind the church in the parking lot. Record players provided the music and everyone brought their favorite 45s and 33s!

Another example from 1988 also in the parking lot. Maybe square dancing?

In February 1989, the dance was held in the sanctuary. (There was no fellowship hall yet). So the chairs were cleared out for a hoedown.

In February 1993, there is a sweetheart dance with disc jockey and karaoke. Just for point of reference, a popular song at the time was “Achy Breaky Heart”!

In June 1994, the youth took over the dancing in the sanctuary! Maybe dancing to Boys II Men or All-4-One?

And again in 1995! Maybe the music that night was Michael Jackson or TLC?

But the adults got in on the fun in October 1995 by being back outside in the parking lot for some boot stomping fun on a chilly day! If it was country music maybe Tim McGraw or Shania Twain was playing.

Once the fellowship hall was finished, dances could be held in there like this youth one from April 1999.

But when the weather was nice, like in June 1999, we are back outside with some new moves!

In honor of New Life’s history, maybe you want to “cut a rug” or “dance the night away” or whatever your style is!

If you have pictures from any other dances at New Life, please share with susan@newlifebolingbrook.org
