Our Story – Raise A Stink Fundraiser

May 1, 2020

A light-hearted story for our blog this week!

In October 1995, an unusual fundraiser was put together to help with funding to refurbish the sanctuary with paint, carpet, fans, blinds and recovering those orange pew chairs!

The main event at the fundraiser was purchasing a square to claim your 2 x 2 foot square where you thought the cows might leave a cowpie! What a sight! Cows on the north lawn.  Pastor Paul Walker kissing a cow. Whip cream pie throwing booth. Minnow races. General Store with garage sale, bake sale and food concessions. Activities for the kids. And to complete the country theme, a hoedown in the parking lot complete with line dancing.

Many volunteers spent countless hours on this “cow-brained” idea including the Blumensteins who saw this idea in New Jersey, with planning spearheaded by the Schmidts and Rich Stoehrmann who searched the countryside to find COWS to complete this idea!

New Lifers have always been and continue to be a passionate group who get things done!
