Our Story – Secret Pals
A friend is someone we turn to when our spirits need a lift.
A friend is someone we treasure for our friendship is a gift.
A friend is someone who fills our lives with beauty, joy and grace
And makes the whole world we live in a better and happier place.
The women of New Life started the Secret Pals activity in 1984. It was an idea that came out of the monthly ladies breakfasts that were held at that time. You were randomly assigned a name to keep a secret for the whole year. Women were encouraged to remember their Secret Pal on special occasions like birthdays or anniversaries, do little things to make their Pal feel special, and pray for them year round. People learned about other likes and dislikes, styles, and family. All kinds of people were enlisted to help with obtaining information about favorite things and delivering mail or small gifts. All without revealing who their Secret Pal was! That was finally revealed at a special breakfast in December of each year. This special organized connection lasted until 2011.
